A piece of jewellery is not a jewel until someone puts it on. It is at the moment of wearing it that it acquires its character, its true nature. The jewel, in reality, is a kind of "performance" that is established between the object and its wearer. That is why the bearer contributes, knowingly or unknowingly, half of the character of the "work."
